On August 2, 2018, the NRC issued a Notice of Violation to the Department of Defense, Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), for a Severity Level III violation. The violation involved the licensee's failure to document and carry out its NRC-approved quality assurance program by implementing procedures for applicable areas required by 10 CFR Part 71.105(a). Specifically, DTRA performed transportation activities under the provisions of 10 CFR 71.22 (fissile material shipments) from December 2015 through April 2018 without quality assurance procedures in place.
